STUDIO POLICIES

General Student Etiquette

Students show respect for themselves and their classmates by

  • Being dressed appropriately for class (see dress code).
  • Keeping their hands to themselves.
  • Waiting quietly while others have their turn.
  • Making sure that their cell phone is on silent or vibrate in order to ensure it doesn’t disrupt others learning.
  • Being supportive and kind to all classmates (There is a zero tolerance policy for foul/obscene language and/or any bullying behaviors. Our instructors are tasked with keeping their class under control, and they have the authority to dismiss any student displaying uncooperative and/or disruptive behavior.)

Students show respect to their teacher and the art form they are learning by

  • Being properly dressed and ready for class on time.
  • Listening when the teacher speaks.
  • Not talking to their classmates during instruction times.
  • Being prepared for their turn.
  • Always asking before leaving the room for any reason.
  • Applauding and thanking their teacher at the end of class.

Students show respect for their studio by

  • Not bringing gum, food, or drinks other than water into the studios.
  • Never lounging, leaning, or hanging on the barres.
  • Putting trash in the proper receptacle.
  • Not wearing street shoes on the dance floors.
  • Never touching or hitting the mirrors
  • Filming and/or photography during class must be approved by your instructor.

General Parent Etiquette

  • See someone in the office if you need to enter a classroom while class is in session.
  • Pick students up promptly after class.
  • Make an appointment with the teacher if a conversation is likely to exceed more than a couple of minutes.

Hygiene

Proper hygiene is essential in all aspects of life. It is very hard to approach a child or parent about a lack of cleanliness or a foul body odor. However, in a dance studio where activities induce sweat and children are moving through the space, odors can become a terrible distraction and an embarrassment for the child. To avoid these problems, please be sure all dancewear is laundered after each wearing; hair should be clean and pulled back properly, and deodorant should be a consideration for all students age 7 and up for dance class. Please, NO PERFUME prior to class as this will cause a terrible odor, as well as aggravate allergies of other students.

Attendance

As with any program, steady attendance is a requirement for success.  Excessive absences may result in removal from a performance piece and/or forfeiture of your students class space. Arriving 10 minutes or more after class has started will result in the student sitting during class rather than participating. This is to reduce any possibility of injury. In the event of a scheduled vacation or prolonged period of illness that results in a student missing classes, that student is welcome to attend any class at or below their level in order to make up time missed. It is the students responsibility to arrange attendance to those classes.

Observation

In order to maintain a productive and educational environment parents will only be allowed to observe the classroom upon invitation of the instructors. In the event that such an invitation is extended please be courteous and supervise any younger spectators that may be accompanying you.

Rehearsals/Performances

Inside three weeks of a performance, class time may be used to rehearse various pieces from multiple classes. This allows dancers to get comfortable performing in front of others and is a great time for students to see what else is being taught at the studio and support their classmates. Dress rehearsal is mandatory for recital performance. Additionally, students must have their assigned costumes with appropriate shoes, tights, hair/make-up and accessories in order to perform.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather Artistry Dance will close.  If the weather is questionable call the studio or check our Facebook fan-page for closing information. We do not follow any particular school district closings. If Artistry Dance cancels a class, students will be responsible for arranging their own make-up classes at a time that is convenient for them. In the event of multiple cancellations, make-up classes will be scheduled during school vacations. No credit will be given for snow cancellations.

Lobby

Parents are asked to keep waiting students and siblings from causing a disturbance in the halls, or other common areas. No running, yelling, or rough playing permitted at the studio. Food and drink is allowed in the hallway area and trash receptacles are available for any resulting trash.

Restrooms

Parent(s)/Guardian(s), please allow enough time for your child to use the restroom prior to class, so as not to impede instruction time. During class time students may not loiter in/near the restrooms and must return to class immediately after using the restroom.

Before & After Care

Artistry Dance is not responsible for providing before or after class care for any students. We ask that parents of students under the age of 6 remain at the studio during your childs class time. During class, instructors cannot be responsible for changing childrens shoes or taking them to the bathroom. If something comes up that is unavoidable, please speak to the office before leaving so that we are aware of the situation.

Cancellation & Withdrawals

Artistry Dance reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet the minimum 4 student requirement. If a class is canceled due to enrollment or for any other reason, we will make every effort to place students in another class.

We will need 15 days notice from the first of the month if a student will discontinue any classes. You must either speak to one of the Directors directly or written notice must be turned in to the office. Please note that simply not showing up does not cancel your childs tuition or enrollment.

Your registration and costume fees are non-refundable.
